COURSES
We are delighted to offer the most complete courses available for you to learn how to design and make your own bicycle frame. With each hands-on course you will be fully involved in the process from start to finish. Our unique course will take you through the design and manufacture of either a fillet brazed or lugged steel frame. Imagine the feeling… taking home and riding a finished frame you’ve made yourself!
The only frame building courses in the UK taught by a qualified Design and Technology teacher and award winning frame builder - Andrew Jones (AJ) founder of MOSS Bikes.
FRAME BUILDING
FAQ Frame Building Courses
How many participants on the course?
No more than two people on the course at one time. We’ve found having a small working group can be advantageous over 1-1, sharing ideas and learning from each other. Maybe you’d like to bring a friend?
What about materials for my frame?
There is an additional charge for materials to paid by the end of the first week/weekend of the course . You will need to budget approx £400 to cover the materials cost but it depends on the material choice and your design. We use Reynolds 525, 725 and 853 tubing and a selection Columbus tubes for our frame building courses.
Why split courses over multiple weeks/weekends?
There is a lot to learn when building a bicycle frame! From experience we have found it more productive for the learner if there is a break between the sessions to rest and reflect. Spreading a course over multiple sessions can also be useful in helping participants fit this all in around busy lives.
What type of frame can I build?
We will do our best accommodate any conventional design of road, gravel or hard tail mountain bike like our own builds. Some designs/configurations are beyond the scope of our beginner courses. We don’t currently offer fork building. Carbon or steel forks can be purchased from us separately.
Will I manage to make a frame in time?
The aim of the course is for you to have a complete frame by the final day. This does not include paint and may not include some final finishing of filleted joints depending on your skill level.
Can you help me build my bike up when the frame is made?
Yes, please have a look at our Bike Building and Maintenance Course here.
Frame painting and graphic design.
We can paint your frame for you in house using our own specifically designed spray booth. Please budget and additional £450 for this

3. The second base colour is applied over the first.
4. Stencils are carefully removed and the the frame is finished in 3 coats of gleaming 2K clear lacquer over the base coat colours.
Solid, pearl, and metallic finishes are available.
